Gino’s Brick Oven Pizza just opened a new branch in Serendra and we wasted no time in checking it out. In fact, they are still on soft opening but we just couldn’t wait any longer to get another taste of their infamous buratta.

For starters, we had an order of their Buratta Caprese (P355) which had one huge buratta, halved cherry tomatoes, a bed of pesto on the bottom, basil leaves, and all were drizzled in olive oil. This is best eaten with their warm bread rolls.

We ordered two pasta dishes to share among four of us – Salted Egg (P190) and Stuffed Chicken (P355). The Salted Egg Pasta has fettuccini, bacon, salted egg, cream and topped with grated parmesan cheese. It was good but was a little too rich for my taste so I asked for a slice of lemon to cut the richness. After a good drizzle of fresh lemon juice, I easily finished my portion which was creamy and salty and delicious all at the same time. The Stuffed Chicken Pasta on the other hand comes with aglio olio spaghetti, a roll of chicken breast stuffed with ground pork and coated in cream sauce. The best part of this dish was the tasty chicken roll with ground beef inside. If you are ordering this dish, make sure you have time to spare because it takes around 15-20 mins to cook. But if you ask me, it is well worth the wait.

For our pizza, we got the SMEGG (P420). It is topped with their homemade sausage, mushroom, eggs, gouda and cream. I enjoyed my slices with a drizzling of their Spicy Honey and some drops of tabasco.

To down all these carbs with, we also ordered a pitcher of their Iced Tea (P120). I liked it because it did not taste like commercial powdered iced tea mix.

All in all, I loved my second time at Gino’s Brick Oven Pizza. I would definitely go back just for the buratta alone.

It has been AGES since my first try of Uncle Cheffy’s food so I was internally jumping with joy when the usual Friday lunchout group decided to eat here. When I posted our group photo on Facebook, someone jokingly said that I blended with the wall decor due to my color. I just got back from El Nido that time hence the tan. Anyway, on to the food…

Rockefeller Oyster | Php390
A plateful of baked oysters topped with gooey mozzarella and bacon slices. I loved how juicy the oysters were and some shells even had two oyster meat in it (score!) I love cheese so the stringy mozzarella was such a delight. And then there’s the bacon. Who does not love bacon?!? I sure love me some bacon and I’m so happy that they were so generous with the bacon slices. Would definitely order this again.

Tiuey Noodles | Php295
Pronounced as “Chewy Noodles”. First of all, what’s up with the trippy spelling? LOL. But weird spelling aside, this was good. It’s Asian fried noodles with beef, asparagus and cilantro. The noodles were cooked al dente and the beef slices were tender. A good dish overall.

Seafood Marinara Pasta | Php410
This would have been a good dish if not for the undercooked pasta. It was too under to be considered al dente. Because of the pasta’s texture, the whole dish sort of failed. Such a shame since the seafood bits in it were actually good.

All Meat Barbecued Brick Oven Panizza | Php450
It had beef teriyaki, pork, chicken barbecue, onion and chili flakes, basil and cheese. I loved how thin and crunchy the panizza was and as expected, I loved the cheese. However, I am not a big fan of the meat combination. The beef teriyaki was a bit too sweet for my liking and the sweetness kind of overpowered all the other tastes. I was also missing the chili flakes in the pizza, maybe that could have balanced the sweetness off. Loved the panizza but I think I’d rather try other toppings next time.

Buffalo Chicken Wings
For some reason, I cannot find this item in any of Uncle Cheffy’s online menu so I can’t tell you how much this dish cost us. What I can tell you though is that this plateful of perfectly crispy deep-fried chicken wings smothered in buffalo sauce was thoroughly enjoyed by our table. The serving size is very generous which makes you feel that you’re getting the appropriate bang for your buck.

Overall, I love Uncle Cheffy’s food. I would certainly go back to this restaurant again to hopefully try their grilled specialties. How about you? Have you tried eating at Uncle Cheffy’s? If so, what’s your favorite from there?

 

I very rarely meet up with friends during the work week mainly because I finish work later than the usual 9-6 office job. Most of my friends work outside the BGC area and it is a hell to get out of BGC from 6pm onwards so unless the dinner takes place within The Fort, I usually just don’t bother anymore. So when my good friend, T, texted me and said she was available for dinner, I just had to make time. Plus she was willing to trek all the way from QC to The Fort even if it was her first time to commute that route. (Super appreciate the effort, love!)

It was one of those nights where we were not craving for anything specific, we just knew we were hungry. Very hungry. Tokyo Bubble Tea sounded like a good idea because of the relatively wide variety in their menu items.

On to the food!

Bulgogi Nachos | Php245
Bulgogi-style nachos topped with spicy Korean mayonnaise, onions, tomatoes and carrot strips. We attacked this as soon as it reached our table. We were really hungry, don’t judge us! LOL. The Bulgogi Nachos were OK. The nacho chips were warm and crispy and the toppings was quite generous. It was OK but nothing worth writing home about.

Ole Spicy Tuna | Php175
Tuna wrapped in crispy rice with pickled jalapeño savoring that hot and spicy goodness. This was my least favorite dish of the night. Don’t take me wrong, I do like my jalapeño. Without the tuna-mayo topping, the roll lacked flavor especially after that spicy Bulgogi Nacho.

Nippon Ebi | Php285
Panko breaded prawn rolled in sushi rice topped with mango on melted mozzarella cheese. This was the better roll of the night. And since I love cheese so much, the melted mozzarella was my favorite part.

Spicy Seafood Pasta | Php235
Penne pasta with squid, shrimp, clam, and mussel on a creamy pomodoro sauce. And now we come to my favorite dish of the night. What you see below is half of one serving because we asked the kitchen staff to split the dish into two. Aside from the big serving size, I also loved the perfect combination of creamy-tangy-spicy sauce. I squeezed in a bit of lemon juice for that extra zing and it was perfect. I would definitely order this again!

I felt like we made the wrong call on the rolls but the night was saved by the pasta alone. I think this is now my favorite dish from Tokyo Bubble Tea. How about you, have you tried the food from Tokyo Bubble Tea? What is your favorite dish?

Since I first tried out the food from Silantro, I have been wanting to go back and sample some of the other dishes I was not able to try before. It’s a good thing my friend (RC) was hell-bent on giving their food a try, so someone was always urging me to go back for another visit. After more than a month of scheduling and failing to push through, it finally happened last weekend.

Beef Nachos | Phph180
RC: I like it. It has a perfect crunch and the beef was a bit sweet which complimented the tomatoes. The melted cheese added flavor to it. I am not familiar with the herbs and spices used but it made the taste more exciting.
Angel: No one should be allowed to leave Silantro without ordering their nachos. Unlike other places I’ve tried, I don’t feel like they scrimped on the toppings. Perfect chips-to-toppings ratio. Best enjoyed with their dips (chili, aioli and cucumber sauce).

Calliente Wings | Php180
RC: I’m a bit disappointed with it. It’s so salty that I can barely get the fiery taste I was expecting. Thank God for the veggies, the saltiness was balanced out a bit.
Angel: I have to agree that the chicken wings were too salty. But unlike RC, I felt like the shredded cabbage didn’t help much. I enjoyed my chicken wing with lots of aioli and chili sauce.

Silantro’s Paella Fajita Mix | Phph250
RC: It was delicious even if I could not explain the taste. But the chicken was overcooked and it came out a bit dry.
Angel: This was surprisingly my favorite dish of the night. I am not a fan of Mexican rice but I loved Silantro’s paella. I have to agree that the grilled chicken was overcooked but it still tasted good. I especially loved the mussels squirted with a bit of lemon. Yummmmmy!

Beef Quesadillas | Php160
RC: I like how tender the wrapper is, it compliments the cheesy flavor. It’s my favorite among the four. But I wonder, kasama ba talaga ang fries sa quesadilla? Hehe.
Angel: This is not like the usual (flat) quesadilla I am used to. This looks more like a soft-shelled taco. That being said, I would have loved the tortilla toasted to a crunch. A filling that is so ooey-gooey-cheesy-messy sandwiched inside a soft tortilla – all that softness and mush made me crave for another texture. But I loved the fries, which is also unconventional to be served with quesadilla. I loved how crunchy it was in the outside but soft and well cooked in the inside. Yum!

RC: Value for money, ambiance and taste – pop na pop! Hope they have wider space para di masyado pumila ng matagal.
Angel: Overall it was a very good meal. Price is cheap, serving size is quite generous and the food was mostly good. Same with RC, I hope they expand or at least put up more tables as we had to wait for over an hour before we got seated. Would still go back despite the possible long wait, though.

PAUL Boulangerie and Patisserie has been around in France since the late 1880’s. After more than 100 years, Filipinos get to vicariously eat ~authentic French~ pastries without leaving the country, thanks to the local franchise brought in by THE Ben Chan.

Luckily, one of the newly opened franchise is very near my office building and on a Friday, my teammates and I decided to have our lunch at PAUL (Bench Tower). While waiting for our orders to be served, we were dished out a complimentary bread basket with butter and jam, and olive oil with balsamic vinegar. The bread was so good especially when dipped in the olive oil and balsamic vinegar mix.

Allan and I split an order of Cream of Asparagus Soup which is their “Soup of the Day” (Phph110). Despite splitting an order between us, I still felt like the serving was generous. It came with an equally delicious slice of bread. I loved it!

Below are what my friends ordered.

“Poulet Citron” (Php280) | An open sandwich topped with marinated chicken breast in lemon and garlic garnished with chopped parsley served warm with a side salad.

“Tartine Saumon Fume” (Php320) | An open sandwich topped with smoked salmon, cucumber and soft white cheese served cold with a side salad.

“Tartine Boeuf” (Php300) | An open sandwich topped with sauteed beef, onions, fresh mushrooms and leeks topped with melted cheddar cheese served warm with a side salad.

“Cuisse de Poulet Rotie” (Php340) | Roasted chicken leg with herbs, served with salad, sauteed potatoes and shallots.

This is my order and it was the last to arrive on the table. Our server kept telling me that they were making sure that my chicken is thoroughly cooked before they serve it to me. I didn’t mind because who likes salmonella, right? And when it finally got to my table, I have to say it was worth the long wait! The chicken was indeed cooked well and perfectly seasoned. I also loved the potatoes but for was missing the shallots (no biggie). I would most probably order this again when I go back to the restaurant.

Overall, my first meal at Paul Boulangerie was very satisfying. Given the similar price range, I prefer this way more than TWG. Just saying. 🙂

I feel like Chili’s has been around for so long and I just always have taken it for granted because I am not really a big fan of American food. I finally got to try it a long time ago with a good friend.

Grilled Chicken Salad | Regular Php275, To Share Php470
Grilled chicken with cheese, tomatoes, smoked corn relish and honey lime vinaigrette. I especially loved the grilled chicken, cooked just right, so moist and tender.

Tripple Dipper | Php510
A combination of three appetizers – Wings Over Buffalo, Chicken Crispers, and Southwestern Eggrolls. It is served with three kinds of dipping sauces. I loved the egg rolls because for some reason, I was in the mood for something that had a little bit of Mediterranean taste that night. And I think out of the 3 sauces, we favored the Bleu Cheese one the most.

Bacon Burger | Php455
Topped with crispy bacon, aged cheddar cheese, mayo, shredded lettuce, tomato, sliced red onion, and pickle. Unfortunately this was a let down. The burger was supposed to have been grilled medium well and served on a sesame seed bun with home-style fries. The patty was dry and the bacon was overcooked to the point where it got hard and stiff. I don’t think I will order this again.

My first dining experience at Chili’s was a hit and miss but I will most probably go back again for their other dishes and what looks like an impressive dessert selection.

I am far from being a tea connoisseur but I do appreciate a good cup (or two) of freshly brewed tea from time to time, especially when I feel bloated. While the good ol’ Lipton Tea could do the trick, it also doesn’t hurt to try out teas from the higher end of the spectrum, eh?

I was originally intent on getting my own tea when we planned on having our team dinner at TWG. However, work took longer than expected and I was already starving by the time I and a couple of my other teammates were able to step out of the office. It’s a good thing two of our friends got there ahead of us and their pots of tea were just perfectly warm when we got to the restaurant.

One of them got the Earl Grey Chocolate Tea which I loved! The other opted for something that tasted like flowers, and I just can’t take that kind of tea. It reminds me of funeral flowers, LOL.I was also able to get a nibble of their macarons and they were lovely! Too bad I still find macarons overrated and overpriced, so I don’t really indulge on them.

ON TO THE FOOD!!! However, I do not remember the exact name of the dishes and for the life of me, I couldn’t find them in any of the published menus online so I’ll just call them for what they appear to be, yeah?

Scallops Pasta | AKA the-dish-I-wish-I-ordered. LOL. It was perfectly creamy, and I think the cherry tomatoes are perfect for that needed zing when the cream seems overpowering. The pieces of scallops and shrimps were also quite generous.

Baked Chicken Breast | Well, it’s a baked chicken breast (LOL) perched on top of what looks like a flat croquette. When my friend was tearing into it, I saw that the meat was dry so quite possibly, the chicken might be overcooked. I tasted the sauce but it was just too sweet for my liking.

Lasagna | It just looks sad LOL. I feel like the serving size is quite measly, and my friends who ordered it agree that it’s a little on the bitin side. I got a tiny tiny bite and I didn’t hear any angels singing. It tasted like an ordinary morsel of a cheesy pasta.

Shrimp Pasta | Yes, this actually has shrimps on its name. However, it appears like there are no shrimps in it, noh? There were a couple of pieces, maybe three… This was my dish and I was utterly disappointed. The pasta is juuuuust a little too underdone for me. I know they were aiming for al dente but the noodles needed just a couple more seconds in the boiling water. As for the seafood, the Scallops Pasta seemed to have had more shrimps than what was supposed to be a Shrimp Pasta. What’s up with that?!? LOL. So disappointing…

We all managed to clean up our plates despite the general disappointment in the table because we were all hungry and the serving size is really on the smaller side. Plus if you’re shelling out at least Php400 per plate, then you better make sure to take every last bite right?

I probably will hesitantly try their dishes once more but I could definitely take my own pot of that delicious Earl Grey Chocolate Tea. And maybe a piece (or two) of their delicious macarons.
