This is my way of reminding myself of the little things that recently made me happy as inspired by Helga.

  1. Store Sales. Cris and I took a trip to the mall to buy his suit for my friends’ wedding and we saw a lot of stores having their End of Season Sales. I took advantage and scored good deals from H&M and Cotton On.
  2. Grabtaxi/ Grabcar promos. For someone like me who takes a cab everyday to work, the emergence of Grabtaxi and other transport services has brought so much convenience. Add to that the “no booking fee” and “Php50 off” promos, I will never endure standing under the sun just to flag a cab ever again. Or at least until their promos last.
  3. Rainy days. I know the rain was brought in by typhoons and typhoons are usually bad new for our country but I just can’t help but love it. It’s such a relief to go to bed at night not worrying about waking up in the middle of the night drenched in sweat.
  4. Speaking of rainy days, one of my favorite things to do in the cold weather is to drink hot soup. Or consume any food with soup in it, for that matter. We had pho for dinner last Sunday and it left my insides so pleasantly warm.
  5. With all this rain, I can’t get away with my “will just use my cardigan/scarf as umbrella” anymore. For some reason, I just don’t like using umbrellas. But Cris gave me a cute transparent umbrella from Japan, and he does not need to force me to bring it with me because I love using it. LOL. Obviously, I’m not that hard to please.
  6. My oven! I’ve been trying to use my new oven more often so I can get familiarized with it before I finally try to bake some pastries. I’ve only cooked a few dishes with it so far – 2 chicken recipes and roasted liempo. And one night when I was feeling more adventurous, I made pizza! Haaaay… How to eat and not end up just looking like a blubber all year round???
  7. Weddings. I attended a wedding yesterday and I loved every moment of it. It was also nice to see the bride who is a very good friend of mine. We used to share a condo before but she moved to Australia for her job a couple of years ago so we barely see each other now.
  8. My GLOBE friends. This is the group I stuck with from my first job and we’ve remained friends even after leaving the company. We fondly call our group “Brothers and Sisters” which is very apt since we actually consider each other as brothers and sisters.
  9. Cookie Cup. After the wedding reception last night, the Brothers and Sisters (B & S) braved Marikina’s traffic and semi-flooded streets to have coffee and spend more time together. This café (Cookie Mug) has the unique idea of serving drinks in cups made of cookie. I like the novelty of pouring in your drink and melting the chocolate coating of the cup, and eating the actual “cookie cup” when you’re done with your drink. Pretty cool concept.
  10. Today’s lunch of katsu curry. My usual Friday lunchout group tried out a fairly new restaurant in our area – Shingetsu. We all ordered their lunch set which comes with appetizer, soup, salad, dessert and your choice of mains. The food is delicious and the serving size is huge. I would definitely go back there again.

How was your week? I hope you are all safe and dry!

Luna Specialty Coffee is an all-day Filipino breakfast café partly owned by Lito Cayetano. Because I hate monotony, I am always on the lookout for new restaurants and cafes where my friends and I could eat at.

image

One weekday afternoon, we took a quick break from work and decided to try this new place out. We were experiencing the usual afternoon slump and we all needed a perk-me-upper.

image

They have a good selection of coffee – both hot and cold. To be honest, their cold coffees look more interesting but I try to shy away from cold and sweet beverages because I tend to develop a sore throat very easily.

Key Kalamansi Pie | Phph140
This is a local version of the more American dessert Key Lime Pie. It was pleasantly tart and the crushed graham on top gave a hint of sweetness. I would never order this if I am dining by myself because I am not very keen on sour desserts, but I reckon this would be good for sharing especially since the serving is quite generous.

image

Tapa and Egg Pan De Sal | Php230
Flat pan de sal with aioli, angus tapa and soft-boiled egg. I felt like this was priced rather steeply for the serving size. However, my friend who ordered this seemed very satisfied so I guess it’s all worth it, eh? And just look at that golden, melty yolk. Yummmm!

image

White Rabbit Candyccino | Php 140
This somehow tasted like Starbucks’ Caramel Frappuccino. I am not really a fan because I felt like it was too sweet for me, but for novelty of having the old school White Rabbit in your coffee, I think this is worth a try just for the heck of it.

image

Flat Tops Candyccino | Phph140
It’s like the White Rabbit Candyccino but instead of the White Rabbit Candy, it is infused with another Pinoy novelty chocolate – Flat Tops. Now this one resembled Starbucks’ Mocha Frappuccino.

image

Mochaccino | Php190
This was my order and it came with 3 pieces of assorted hopia, another traditional Filipino snack. It was served in a (very) wide-mouthed French coffee bowl. It is said that the coffee bowls are originally designed to keep the hands of the coffee drinker warm during the cold months in Europe. However, I don’t think this suits me because I tend to drink my coffee in a leisurely manner, so I would want a cup that could keep my drink warm as long as possible. The coffee itself was good, but pairing it with the hopia made it a little more special. It’s a surprisingly good combination and I was able to finish everything on my plate (or cup for that matter).

Overall, I enjoyed my first time dining at Luna. I have gone back to the café a couple of times since this first visit and I always leave with a content stomach.

Luna Specialty Coffee is located at the Ground Floor or NAC Tower along 32nd Street in BGC.

I am far from being a tea connoisseur but I do appreciate a good cup (or two) of freshly brewed tea from time to time, especially when I feel bloated. While the good ol’ Lipton Tea could do the trick, it also doesn’t hurt to try out teas from the higher end of the spectrum, eh?

image

I was originally intent on getting my own tea when we planned on having our team dinner at TWG. However, work took longer than expected and I was already starving by the time I and a couple of my other teammates were able to step out of the office. It’s a good thing two of our friends got there ahead of us and their pots of tea were just perfectly warm when we got to the restaurant.

image

One of them got the Earl Grey Chocolate Tea which I loved! The other opted for something that tasted like flowers, and I just can’t take that kind of tea. It reminds me of funeral flowers, LOL.I was also able to get a nibble of their macarons and they were lovely! Too bad I still find macarons overrated and overpriced, so I don’t really indulge on them.

image

ON TO THE FOOD!!! However, I do not remember the exact name of the dishes and for the life of me, I couldn’t find them in any of the published menus online so I’ll just call them for what they appear to be, yeah?

Scallops Pasta | AKA the-dish-I-wish-I-ordered. LOL. It was perfectly creamy, and I think the cherry tomatoes are perfect for that needed zing when the cream seems overpowering. The pieces of scallops and shrimps were also quite generous.

image

Baked Chicken Breast | Well, it’s a baked chicken breast (LOL) perched on top of what looks like a flat croquette. When my friend was tearing into it, I saw that the meat was dry so quite possibly, the chicken might be overcooked. I tasted the sauce but it was just too sweet for my liking.

image

Lasagna | It just looks sad LOL. I feel like the serving size is quite measly, and my friends who ordered it agree that it’s a little on the bitin side. I got a tiny tiny bite and I didn’t hear any angels singing. It tasted like an ordinary morsel of a cheesy pasta.

image

Shrimp Pasta | Yes, this actually has shrimps on its name. However, it appears like there are no shrimps in it, noh? There were a couple of pieces, maybe three… This was my dish and I was utterly disappointed. The pasta is juuuuust a little too underdone for me. I know they were aiming for al dente but the noodles needed just a couple more seconds in the boiling water. As for the seafood, the Scallops Pasta seemed to have had more shrimps than what was supposed to be a Shrimp Pasta. What’s up with that?!? LOL. So disappointing…

image

We all managed to clean up our plates despite the general disappointment in the table because we were all hungry and the serving size is really on the smaller side. Plus if you’re shelling out at least Php400 per plate, then you better make sure to take every last bite right?

I probably will hesitantly try their dishes once more but I could definitely take my own pot of that delicious Earl Grey Chocolate Tea. And maybe a piece (or two) of their delicious macarons.

Back when I used to live at a condo unit with a bunch of other girls, we made sure to celebrate things together. It has become one of our traditions to have a Christmas Dinner before every one of us goes home to our beloved families for the holidays. Like me, my girlfriends also love eating and discovering new food and new places to eat at.

For that particular year, we decided to have our annual Christmas dinner at Chef Tatung’s. The place is owned by Chef Myke Sarthou who converted his own home into a private dining gem.

The interiors of the place is pretty homey. The walls are painted a vibrant red that looked very welcoming especially with the gorgeous chairs and table setting. There are also paintings and other trinkets and every corner is “Instagram-worthy”.105596953

While waiting for our food to get served, we made our way to the outside dining area and it was equally charming as the interior. We had to go in after a while though because there were a number of mosquitoes feasting on us. 105599253

On to the food…

These are the only drinks I got to take a picture of.  On the left is Tuba Shake (P110) and the other one is the 4 Seasons Shake (P150). 105594870

What’s a Filipino dinner without rice. We ordered Tatung’s Fried Rice (P160) for us to share.

tatung11

For our vegetable fill, we got the Gising Gising (P220). I was actually expecting green beans in coconut milk but this one was more like Chopsuey. No complaints though because it had bits and pieces of different kinds of seafood.

tatung12

I know these were consumed couple years ago but I can’t help myself from drooling right now. This is their Prawns Aligue (P480). Plump and juicy large prawns in a deadly delicious aligue (crab fat) sauce. Yummy!

tatung10

We also had two orders of the barbecued Pork Belly (400). As evidenced by the photo, the meat was juicy and it had a small amount of fat in it, which we loved.

tatung13

For desserts, we shared an order of Leche Flan (P60) and Tsoknut Cake (P80). These were demolished in less than five minutes.

Before our dinner ended, Chef Tatung made an appearance to check on us and graciously take a photo with us. What a nice fella!

I’m not sure if this place is still open for business because as I mentioned, this was a couple of years ago. Bad blogger! LOL. But if it is (still open, that is), go check it out! The food is great and you’ll definitely get the bang for your buck. 105605096

Wow! January is almost over! Is it just me or do you also feel like we’re all running out of time? Sometimes, it seems as if there’s just not enough time in the world for all the things that we want to do.

After saying that, let me just say that my past week seemed too boring. LOL. Like there was not much to do. Though I knew in my heart that I have lots of stuff that needs to be done but I am putting off indeterminately.

January 15: Sleepless nights are bugging me again. That usually means doubling up on the caffeine intake: so aside from the usual (double dose) coffee, green apple comes to the rescue. Lately, I’ve been favoring green apples over the red ones. I don’t know why, but maybe I’m just liking their tanginess. During dinners, I have the weirdest cravings. Case in point, I wanted Jollibee spaghetti and lumpiang shanghai. Oh evil junk, why are they so good?!? Then when I got home after work, I spent more than four hours cleaning the house. Something’s wrong with me…

image

January 16: Received the official invitation from SENATE to sing in one of their sessions. I AM SO EXCITED!!! LOL. The choir has opened up some opportunities for me that I never thought I would come across with. On February alone, we have two singing gigs. That is awesome, but also means we need to put in more time for rehearsals. Phew! My team at work have regular weekly meetings. I casually mentioned that I am liking Starbucks’ full leaf teas lately so we decided to hold our meeting there. We all ordered tea, hence our catch-up being dubbed as a TEAm Meeting. Witty!

image

January 17: This Friday is painfully boring. Peppered with lots of junk goodies. Reese’s peanut butter cups are my ultimate favorite chocolates. Anything with peanut butter, I would gladly devour. KFC’s chicken is also one of my favorite fried chicken in all the fried chickens out there. Fuuuuuuu! I’m making myself hungry. 😦

image

January 18: I finally had the time to go the mall and check out home appliances. Bit the bullet and got a Condura refrigerator. You don’t understand how much this makes me happy! LOL. Spent most of the day walking around Megamall and came home tired I just wanted to plop down my bed which looks like an explosion of prints, hahaha! And if you are keen, you gotta try that drink. It’s like drinking wine without the alcohol content. It’s pretty nice.

image

January 19: Most of my day was wasted in bed, watching random Youtube videos. I just couldn’t resist my blanket. It’s soooo soooo soft! It’s so fluffy and soft and so warm haha! Then I finally tried this tea from Human Nature. It’s good, definitely tastes healthy. And while watching flip top battles (I know, random! haha), I painted my nails this cute pink color. SO NOT ME!!!

image

January 20: I had to work the 2pm-11pm shift because I was waiting for the SM guys to deliver my fridge. FINALLY! I have a new fridge!!! Hello, healthy living! OR NOT. Haha! But I’ll definitely be cooking again and I will try my very best to eat healthier. Allan came back to work after a week of being sick and he misses me so much he just showers me with fruits. LOL. Seriously though, everyone’s giving me fruits today. Weird…

image

January 21: Because I have a fridge now, I woke up pretty early to go to the wet market and buy fresh goodies that I will be cooking all throughout the week. I finally brought packed lunch again after a very long time. And people find me weird for loving okra so much. I don’t know man, I love that shit! LOL. But maybe not as much as I love sriracha. Hahaha! I put it on everything! Even on my siopao which was my dinner that day.

image

Then I had dessert at our usual hangout place: Breakfast in Bed. Brownie à la mode. I liked the brownie and the vanilla ice cream, but I feel like the chocolate syrup was an overkill. Diabetes!!!

How was your week like?

crepe1

Cafe Breton is known for their vast selection of crepes – sweet and savory alike. After a yummy Japanese dinner with friends, we wanted something sweet to cap the night off. Cafe Breton was the least crowded place in the area, so we secured ourselves a table on the second floor of their Podium branch.

crepe5

Timmy’s choice was Fantastic Pinay – mango, nutella, chocolate sauce and whipped cream. It looked prettier than it tasted, LOL.

crepe4

Vlad opted for the Tarzan – banana and condensed milk and added a scoop of coffee ice cream on top. The condensed milk was too sweet for me; good thing the coffee ice cream provided a bittersweet distraction.

crepe2

Rio had Adam and Eve stewed apples with cinnamon and vanilla ice cream. We actually didn’t realize it was vanilla ice cream until we read the menu again. The cinnamon just overpowered everything. But it was still good.

crepe3

Mine was a customized one. It had banana and peanut butter, topped with a scoop of chocolate ice cream. It was the best! Of course, I’m biased. LOL. Anything with peanut butter is a winner for me.

Everything was good and I’m actually excited to go back and try their savory crepes this time. I heard their galettes are good too. Hmmmmm…
