I must admit, I am one of those people who could waste hours after hours of my precious time on Pinterest. And I must also admit, I am somewhat obsessed with looking up ~healthy~ recipes. I almost always don’t end up making them but sometimes I get to score some easy-looking recipes like this one I’m gonna feature now and my ambitious mind goes “I can totally do this!”

There could be a hundred pins of baked avocado and eggs on Pinterest and they’re practically the same. Cut avocado in half, get rid of the pit, crack an egg into each half, pop it in the oven and you’re done. It is sooooo easy to make! Any kitchen novice could easily churn this out. 

I tried it out with some pepperoni because I didn’t have bacon that time. And how was it, you ask? IT SUCKED!!! Lol. The avocadoes were soooo bitter! I googled it up and apparently, some avocadoes turn bitter when they’re cooked. I wish I’d known about that before I wasted a perfectly good avocado. I ended up just eating the eggs and pepperoni without the avocado. 

Verdict: PINTERTEST FAIL.

Gino’s Brick Oven Pizza just opened a new branch in Serendra and we wasted no time in checking it out. In fact, they are still on soft opening but we just couldn’t wait any longer to get another taste of their infamous buratta.

For starters, we had an order of their Buratta Caprese (P355) which had one huge buratta, halved cherry tomatoes, a bed of pesto on the bottom, basil leaves, and all were drizzled in olive oil. This is best eaten with their warm bread rolls.

We ordered two pasta dishes to share among four of us – Salted Egg (P190) and Stuffed Chicken (P355). The Salted Egg Pasta has fettuccini, bacon, salted egg, cream and topped with grated parmesan cheese. It was good but was a little too rich for my taste so I asked for a slice of lemon to cut the richness. After a good drizzle of fresh lemon juice, I easily finished my portion which was creamy and salty and delicious all at the same time. The Stuffed Chicken Pasta on the other hand comes with aglio olio spaghetti, a roll of chicken breast stuffed with ground pork and coated in cream sauce. The best part of this dish was the tasty chicken roll with ground beef inside. If you are ordering this dish, make sure you have time to spare because it takes around 15-20 mins to cook. But if you ask me, it is well worth the wait.

For our pizza, we got the SMEGG (P420). It is topped with their homemade sausage, mushroom, eggs, gouda and cream. I enjoyed my slices with a drizzling of their Spicy Honey and some drops of tabasco.

To down all these carbs with, we also ordered a pitcher of their Iced Tea (P120). I liked it because it did not taste like commercial powdered iced tea mix.

All in all, I loved my second time at Gino’s Brick Oven Pizza. I would definitely go back just for the buratta alone.

During my last trip to Baguio, I got to try out a couple of restaurants for the first time. First on the line is Vizco’s Restaurant and Cake Shop. It is located along Session Road so upon alighting a Victory Liner bus, we simply trekked a short way from the terminal to the restaurant.

It’s a good thing that they were open early enough for us to grab some breakfast, or else we would have ended up at one of the 24-hour operating fast food chains. All their -silog meals are served with free coffee, which is a good way to warm up in a cold Baguio morning. Their breakfast meals range between Php100-Php125, which is not too bad I think. However, they all tasted pretty average, nothing special to write about.

While reading up some online reviews of this restaurant, almost every article raves about their Strawberry Shortcake. There are whole cakes on display along with other flavors, but to be quite honest, I only had my eyes on this beauty.

And even though it was not even 8 in the morning, we couldn’t help but order a slice of their Strawberry Shortcake. To be fair, that’s just one slice among the three of us so I didn’t feel too guilty about having cake so early in the day.

Strawberry cake with fresh strawberry filling, icing and glazed topping – this is how it was described in the menu. It was heavenly! It was perfectly creamy, not too sweet, and the strawberries tasted fresh and juicy. And a slice is only worth Php80. Such a steal!

If you ever find yourself along Session Road, go ahead and pay Vizco’s a visit. And never leave the restaurant without trying out their Strawberry Shortcake.
