This is my way of reminding myself of the little things that recently made me happy as inspired by Helga.

I almost did not push through with this week’s happy list because the past 5 days has been all sorts of tough. Work is outrageously busy and challenging, it’s sucking the life out of me. I’m also having post-holiday anxiety, and birthday blues, and the weather is so gloomy, and I’m getting my period soon so my emotions are going batshit crazy. I honestly struggled to complete this week’s list but got it done anyway.

  1. My 4-day visit to Bohol last week. It was raining most of our time there due to the major typhoon that passed through our country but we took it as an opportunity to relax and take multiple naps a day.
  2. My parents sent me a care package from Ilocos. The box was full with food that I love – Ilocos garlic longganisa, bagnet, morcon, and a bunch of avocadoes and dragon fruit from our very own backyard.
  3. Grabcar. I never need to worry about my ticking taxi meter in traffic because Grabcar sets a fixed rate for a desired destination immediately upon booking. This means avoiding drivers asking for additional charge on top of meter rate just because there’s traffic jams everywhere.
  4. Colleagues giving me food and coffee. For no apparent reason, people at work has been giving me food and treating me out for coffee runs. Maybe they know that I’m stressed hehe.
  5. Cris buying me food LOL. He always sees to it that he brings me home some food every time he eats out. What a sweetie.
  6. Supportive friends. As I mentioned above, work has really been very challenging and I have been doubting myself lately. But my good friends reminded me to not be too hard on myself. Awwww I love you guys!
  7. Cris buying groceries. I have been working extra late this week, hence I don’t really have time to get some essentials from the supermarket. I’m glad he’s dependable enough to pick up my momentary slack.
  8. Packed lunches for work. My mom sent me lots of ulam from the province so I always have some to bring at work.
  9. Becky Nights public chat on Viber. LOL I just like seeing how the beckies interact with one another.
  10. Soba noodles. Japanese food is life! Today, we had lunch at Nadai Fujisoba and I had my usual hot soba again. Hay naku #thisiswhyimfat.

This week has been both busy and boring at the same time. You know those days when you have so much to do but you still seem to be bored? I’ve had those days all week. But I still have to be thankful of the little things.

  1. I spent the weekend in Baguio. With Manila’s heat, I cannot stress enough how refreshing it is to have spent a couple of days somewhere cold.
  2. Because I went to Baguio, I got to spend some time with my little (and only) sister. She goes to college in UP Baguio and my visit coincided with her last few days before their semestral break. The last time I’ve seen her was during the Holy Week and I’ve missed her so much.
  3. Fruit (and veggie) smoothies. I brought home strawberries and other fruits from Baguio. I have been making smoothies almost everyday and I’ve been slowly incorporating some vegetables into the mix. I plan to transition on having green juice everyday soon.
  4. Catching up with old-time friends. I don’t text a lot and I honestly hate phone calls so when I don’t see my friends personally, I tend to lose connection. I am thankful to have met up with friends I haven’t seen for a long while now, and finally got updated on each other’s lives.
  5. Speaking of catching up, I finally caught up on all the iZombie episodes. When I started watching this series, there were already 10 episodes out. And just yesterday, I watched Episode 12. I am so excited for the season finale!
  6. Finally finished my process cross training at work. I am offloading a bulk of my current book of work to make way for incoming processes. The training was tedious but I am glad we got it over with.
  7. Post-fight niceness from Cris. We didn’t really fight FIGHT but we got into a little bit of misunderstanding a few days ago. He’s always extra nice and attentive after these episodes so I cherish these “spoiled” moments LOL.
  8. Facebook’s “On This Day” thingamajig. I guess this has been existent for a long while now but I only got to notice it this week. It gives you snapshots of your Facebook posts on the same day, several years ago. It’s just fun to reminisce such memories.
  9. My housemate’s brother is in the city and he brought over some pre-cooked Bicolano food: sinantol and laing. They are now sitting in my fridge, waiting for me to devour them. I plan to do so tomorrow, and pair it with fried fish. Omnomnom!
  10. Today’s lunch at SOM’s. I always look forward to Friday lunch-outs with my team. Today we had copious amounts of Thai food and I washed it all down with SOM’s Thai Tea which I terribly missed.

How was your week?

Anyone who has ever been to Baguio most probably have already visited Wright Park. It is commonly known as that place in Baguio where one can ride a pink-haired horse.

It is also well-known for its “pool of pines” which is not meant for swimming but rather a long walkway with a well manicured garden and towering pine trees along its far sides. Unfortunately, the flowers were not in bloom when I visited but the yellow flowers peppering the “pool” were still pretty.

All over the park are peddlers selling all sorts of local fruits and novelty souvenirs. I passed up on the touristy key chains but the enticing Sagada oranges were too sweet to resist. I got a couple of pieces which I had for breakfast the next day.

Climbing down more than a hundred stone steps, I came across some elderly Igorots decked in traditional clothing. But I was more interested with these cute kids posing for their parents as they rock them colorful woven garbs. So precious!

Going further down the stairs, my nose began to twitch at the smell of horse manure. I’m not really into horses so after a few snaps, I moved on.

The entrance near the horses’ stables is lined with vendors selling succulents and a whole lot of other plants. This is where I went trigger happy and snapped at the lovely flowers on display. I was seriously mulling over buying a few pots but decided against it when I realized that I will have to lug all of them all around. I just contented myself with the photos I took instead.

To be quite honest, I didn’t find Wright Park too interesting. There really isn’t that much to do aside from riding the horses. However, I still think it is worth a visit if you’re in the area anyway.

After a sumptuous lunch at Bora Bora Restaurant, our speed boat made its way to the last destination for the day — Khai Nok Island. Koh Khai Nok is a small triangular island tucked in Phang Nga Bay.

One special characteristic of Koh Khai Nok is that it has at least twelve types of exotic tropical fish and they aren’t afraid of humans. This is the only place I’ve been so far where you could snorkel above the water. Literally! You don’t even need to dip your head into the water to be able to see all the fish. The water is so clear and the fish are so fearless that they swim even on knee-deep waters.

My friends and I were more interested in all the freshly cut fruits prepared by a member of our boat crew. He was masterfully cutting open piece after piece of pineapple and watermelon. All the guests could partake of the fruits, water and soda that they brought along. Well, don’t mind if I do! 🙂

We rented out a parasol where we could put our things and rolled around on the beach’s powder white sand. The sand was so fine and it got everywhere. EVERYWHERE! Hahaha!

On the other end of the island, less people were gathered. The water is relatively deeper and there are much more jagged rock formations than the inexperienced swimmer would dare get near to.

After walking around and swimming with the fishies for a little bit, we went back under our parasol and gladly consumed some more watermelon that our full tummies could manage.  We just can’t get enough!

We spent our last minutes lounging under our beach umbrella and people-watching. Not long after, our tour guide were calling everyone on board. Sadly, our whole day of gallivanting in Phuket’s Islands has come to an end.

Wow! January is almost over! Is it just me or do you also feel like we’re all running out of time? Sometimes, it seems as if there’s just not enough time in the world for all the things that we want to do.

After saying that, let me just say that my past week seemed too boring. LOL. Like there was not much to do. Though I knew in my heart that I have lots of stuff that needs to be done but I am putting off indeterminately.

January 15: Sleepless nights are bugging me again. That usually means doubling up on the caffeine intake: so aside from the usual (double dose) coffee, green apple comes to the rescue. Lately, I’ve been favoring green apples over the red ones. I don’t know why, but maybe I’m just liking their tanginess. During dinners, I have the weirdest cravings. Case in point, I wanted Jollibee spaghetti and lumpiang shanghai. Oh evil junk, why are they so good?!? Then when I got home after work, I spent more than four hours cleaning the house. Something’s wrong with me…

January 16: Received the official invitation from SENATE to sing in one of their sessions. I AM SO EXCITED!!! LOL. The choir has opened up some opportunities for me that I never thought I would come across with. On February alone, we have two singing gigs. That is awesome, but also means we need to put in more time for rehearsals. Phew! My team at work have regular weekly meetings. I casually mentioned that I am liking Starbucks’ full leaf teas lately so we decided to hold our meeting there. We all ordered tea, hence our catch-up being dubbed as a TEAm Meeting. Witty!

January 17: This Friday is painfully boring. Peppered with lots of junk goodies. Reese’s peanut butter cups are my ultimate favorite chocolates. Anything with peanut butter, I would gladly devour. KFC’s chicken is also one of my favorite fried chicken in all the fried chickens out there. Fuuuuuuu! I’m making myself hungry. 😦

January 18: I finally had the time to go the mall and check out home appliances. Bit the bullet and got a Condura refrigerator. You don’t understand how much this makes me happy! LOL. Spent most of the day walking around Megamall and came home tired I just wanted to plop down my bed which looks like an explosion of prints, hahaha! And if you are keen, you gotta try that drink. It’s like drinking wine without the alcohol content. It’s pretty nice.

January 19: Most of my day was wasted in bed, watching random Youtube videos. I just couldn’t resist my blanket. It’s soooo soooo soft! It’s so fluffy and soft and so warm haha! Then I finally tried this tea from Human Nature. It’s good, definitely tastes healthy. And while watching flip top battles (I know, random! haha), I painted my nails this cute pink color. SO NOT ME!!!

January 20: I had to work the 2pm-11pm shift because I was waiting for the SM guys to deliver my fridge. FINALLY! I have a new fridge!!! Hello, healthy living! OR NOT. Haha! But I’ll definitely be cooking again and I will try my very best to eat healthier. Allan came back to work after a week of being sick and he misses me so much he just showers me with fruits. LOL. Seriously though, everyone’s giving me fruits today. Weird…

January 21: Because I have a fridge now, I woke up pretty early to go to the wet market and buy fresh goodies that I will be cooking all throughout the week. I finally brought packed lunch again after a very long time. And people find me weird for loving okra so much. I don’t know man, I love that shit! LOL. But maybe not as much as I love sriracha. Hahaha! I put it on everything! Even on my siopao which was my dinner that day.

image

Then I had dessert at our usual hangout place: Breakfast in Bed. Brownie à la mode. I liked the brownie and the vanilla ice cream, but I feel like the chocolate syrup was an overkill. Diabetes!!!
