This is my way of reminding myself of the little things that recently made me happy as inspired by Helga.

I almost did not push through with this week’s happy list because the past 5 days has been all sorts of tough. Work is outrageously busy and challenging, it’s sucking the life out of me. I’m also having post-holiday anxiety, and birthday blues, and the weather is so gloomy, and I’m getting my period soon so my emotions are going batshit crazy. I honestly struggled to complete this week’s list but got it done anyway.

  1. My 4-day visit to Bohol last week. It was raining most of our time there due to the major typhoon that passed through our country but we took it as an opportunity to relax and take multiple naps a day.
  2. My parents sent me a care package from Ilocos. The box was full with food that I love – Ilocos garlic longganisa, bagnet, morcon, and a bunch of avocadoes and dragon fruit from our very own backyard.
  3. Grabcar. I never need to worry about my ticking taxi meter in traffic because Grabcar sets a fixed rate for a desired destination immediately upon booking. This means avoiding drivers asking for additional charge on top of meter rate just because there’s traffic jams everywhere.
  4. Colleagues giving me food and coffee. For no apparent reason, people at work has been giving me food and treating me out for coffee runs. Maybe they know that I’m stressed hehe.
  5. Cris buying me food LOL. He always sees to it that he brings me home some food every time he eats out. What a sweetie.
  6. Supportive friends. As I mentioned above, work has really been very challenging and I have been doubting myself lately. But my good friends reminded me to not be too hard on myself. Awwww I love you guys!
  7. Cris buying groceries. I have been working extra late this week, hence I don’t really have time to get some essentials from the supermarket. I’m glad he’s dependable enough to pick up my momentary slack.
  8. Packed lunches for work. My mom sent me lots of ulam from the province so I always have some to bring at work.
  9. Becky Nights public chat on Viber. LOL I just like seeing how the beckies interact with one another.
  10. Soba noodles. Japanese food is life! Today, we had lunch at Nadai Fujisoba and I had my usual hot soba again. Hay naku #thisiswhyimfat.

I know I won’t be the first one you’ll hear (read?) mutter the words “This year has gone by so fast!”. It really did go by so fast and more often than not, I have a hard time coping up with how fast-paced life has seem to become. August is my birthday month and that reminded me to reevaluate how my year has been so far. I honestly don’t have a list of my goals for the year but from January til March, I wrote down monthly targets that I wanted to achieve. Then laziness got the better of me and I started failing almost 50% of my goals and things just went downhill from there, until I eventually stopped making lists. LOL. Nice try, self.

But since I will be turning another year older this month, I decided to give this monthly goal another try. I’m posting my list in here so I will have some sense of accountability (uhmmm to like 5 people who actually read my blog LOL.) So here are the things that I hope to accomplish in August. Here goes nothing!

  1. Read one (1) book. LOL. What a way to start off this list, huh? But seriously. I need to make this my #1 so I will always be reminded how much I have faltered when it comes to reading actual books. I used to go through books really fast but for some reason, it just started being such a hassle for me to lug a book around. Flipping through pages turned to jumping from one online article to another and ~blog-hopping~ and essentially being glued to my phone almost every waking hour. So consider this is a humble start, let’s try one book first.
  2. Drink soda at most five (5) times. One count for each weekend. ILOVESODA. I used to drink it like it’s water. But I know it’s not good for me so I will (once again) try to keep off it. I have tried so many times to quit it cold turkey but I’ve always relapsed. I swear it’s an addiction! The longest I’ve gone without soda was 4 miserable months. For now, I will try to give myself at most one cheat day a week.
  3. Workout at least twice a week. I also used to be more active. I played sports, I went to the gym, I worked out with some friends. I really never got skinny but I got less pudgy. And I felt prettier when I was less pudgy because who wouldn’t, right? But I let it get into my head that I am busy and therefore never made time for workouts. So now, I am committing to at least 2 workout sessions per week. Because I owe this to myself.
  4. Bring packed lunch to work. I love cooking and this shouldn’t be that hard for me to do. Besides, I was able to do this before – bring packed lunch to work 4 out of 5 working days a week (Fridays have always been lunch out days). I just really need to get through this lazy slump.
  5. Go to work earlier. Right now, I start my shift between 12nn and 2pm. This is fine with the company as I actually deal with Frankfurt clients, but I know I need to start going to work earlier than usual so I get to start (and end) my day earlier as well. As a start, I commit to get to work not later than 12 noon.
  6. Deposit to my passbook account. I opened a passbook account so I have some money tucked away in a place harder to access. But I already let more than a year pass without depositing to it. I have my savings sitting in a spare Savings Account with an ATM card and I’m afraid I might (unnecessarily) touch it now that the travel bug has bit me hard and I want to get away every freaking weekend.
  7. Renew my passport. My passport expired last March and I have an international trip on the first week of October so I really have to sort this out. I am such a procrastinator.
  8. Make an artwork. I would really love to try my hands at painting. I would draw but I could only whip out stick figures, and even then, they would be the ugliest stick figures you’ll see. So that’s definitely off limits LOL. I’d like to try painting ‘coz even if it sucks, I would just pass it off as abstract art hahaha!

That’s all I got for now. I really hope I get to accomplish all of this. I have yet to come up with a reward for myself if I successfully finish all 8 goals. How about you guys? Do you have monthly goals set? Or goals for the year maybe? Maybe you could also help me think of an awesome reward, yes?

  1. Store Sales. Cris and I took a trip to the mall to buy his suit for my friends’ wedding and we saw a lot of stores having their End of Season Sales. I took advantage and scored good deals from H&M and Cotton On.
  2. Grabtaxi/ Grabcar promos. For someone like me who takes a cab everyday to work, the emergence of Grabtaxi and other transport services has brought so much convenience. Add to that the “no booking fee” and “Php50 off” promos, I will never endure standing under the sun just to flag a cab ever again. Or at least until their promos last.
  3. Rainy days. I know the rain was brought in by typhoons and typhoons are usually bad new for our country but I just can’t help but love it. It’s such a relief to go to bed at night not worrying about waking up in the middle of the night drenched in sweat.
  4. Speaking of rainy days, one of my favorite things to do in the cold weather is to drink hot soup. Or consume any food with soup in it, for that matter. We had pho for dinner last Sunday and it left my insides so pleasantly warm.
  5. With all this rain, I can’t get away with my “will just use my cardigan/scarf as umbrella” anymore. For some reason, I just don’t like using umbrellas. But Cris gave me a cute transparent umbrella from Japan, and he does not need to force me to bring it with me because I love using it. LOL. Obviously, I’m not that hard to please.
  6. My oven! I’ve been trying to use my new oven more often so I can get familiarized with it before I finally try to bake some pastries. I’ve only cooked a few dishes with it so far – 2 chicken recipes and roasted liempo. And one night when I was feeling more adventurous, I made pizza! Haaaay… How to eat and not end up just looking like a blubber all year round???
  7. Weddings. I attended a wedding yesterday and I loved every moment of it. It was also nice to see the bride who is a very good friend of mine. We used to share a condo before but she moved to Australia for her job a couple of years ago so we barely see each other now.
  8. My GLOBE friends. This is the group I stuck with from my first job and we’ve remained friends even after leaving the company. We fondly call our group “Brothers and Sisters” which is very apt since we actually consider each other as brothers and sisters.
  9. Cookie Cup. After the wedding reception last night, the Brothers and Sisters (B & S) braved Marikina’s traffic and semi-flooded streets to have coffee and spend more time together. This café (Cookie Mug) has the unique idea of serving drinks in cups made of cookie. I like the novelty of pouring in your drink and melting the chocolate coating of the cup, and eating the actual “cookie cup” when you’re done with your drink. Pretty cool concept.
  10. Today’s lunch of katsu curry. My usual Friday lunchout group tried out a fairly new restaurant in our area – Shingetsu. We all ordered their lunch set which comes with appetizer, soup, salad, dessert and your choice of mains. The food is delicious and the serving size is huge. I would definitely go back there again.

How was your week? I hope you are all safe and dry!

I have been extremely busy these past few weeks hence the unintentional hiatus. Work was crazy due to movements in the team and the little downtime I had, I chose to spend on catching up on sleep. I wasn’t THAT physically tired but it sure felt like my brain was FRIED. But anyway, I am trying to slowly get back on track with the blog. I am currently stuck at home with a slight fever and an upset stomach so this post serves as a good distraction. So here is the week’s list.

  1. Cris and I very rarely go to malls (I tend to avoid malls because PEOPLE, ’nuff said) so I was quite adamant when he said he wanted to have our date-night at SM Megamall. I gave in and we had a lovely dinner at a curry house. Then he dragged me to the appliance store and bought me an oven! I have always wanted one but keep putting off buying one for no apparent reason and now he finally did it for me. Brownie points for the man! 🙂
  2. I love eating out and trying out new restaurants. This weekend, Cris and I got to try out the food at Eri Curry and decided to film our meal.I started a ~web series~ on my YouTube channel and named it Dead Hungry, which directly and aptly translates to Patay Gutom LOL. If you’re keen on watching us stuff our faces with delicious curry, I’d appreciate it if you watch the video below.

  1. Some friends decided to come over to our condo unit and cooked up a feast for us.We had buttered garlic shrimp, halaan soup, buttered veggies and fried whole fish. YUM!
  2. To commemorate June as PRIDE Month, we staged a mini-concert at work featuring employee talents and a ~celebrity guest~. We invited over Rita from The Voice Philippines and she was great. My group also performed two songs that show support to the LGBT community.
  3. Free food! My team won around Php10K from another event and we decided to celebrate by ordering lunch for everyone. Free food is always good LOL.
  4. It’s time for our Midyear Performance Evaluation and I am so glad to hear good feedback from both my supervisor and manager. I have been working my butt off extra hard this year and it just feels good to be validated.
  5. Finding girlfriends who share your opinions and beliefs.Whether it be towards social media, money, relationships, work or whatever.
  6. A friend from work recently went to Boracay and I am so happy he obliged to buy mea box of Calamansi Muffins from Real Coffee. I have been having it for breakfast with a cup of coffee and  it just starts my day off at the right note.
  7. My company provides car service to employees who leave work after 10pm. I always work way past the time and it’s just so nice to not worry about getting home safe and sound. Not to mention the savings I incur. I swear, cab money has been burning a hole in my pocket.
  8. I finally watched the finale of iZombie 1! I love it and I can’t wait for the next season to start.

This is my way of reminding myself of the little things that recently made me happy as inspired by Helga.

This week has been both busy and boring at the same time. You know those days when you have so much to do but you still seem to be bored? I’ve had those days all week. But I still have to be thankful of the little things.

  1. I spent the weekend in Baguio. With Manila’s heat, I cannot stress enough how refreshing it is to have spent a couple of days somewhere cold.
  2. Because I went to Baguio, I got to spend some time with my little (and only) sister. She goes to college in UP Baguio and my visit coincided with her last few days before their semestral break. The last time I’ve seen her was during the Holy Week and I’ve missed her so much.
  3. Fruit (and veggie) smoothies. I brought home strawberries and other fruits from Baguio. I have been making smoothies almost everyday and I’ve been slowly incorporating some vegetables into the mix. I plan to transition on having green juice everyday soon.
  4. Catching up with old-time friends. I don’t text a lot and I honestly hate phone calls so when I don’t see my friends personally, I tend to lose connection. I am thankful to have met up with friends I haven’t seen for a long while now, and finally got updated on each other’s lives.
  5. Speaking of catching up, I finally caught up on all the iZombie episodes. When I started watching this series, there were already 10 episodes out. And just yesterday, I watched Episode 12. I am so excited for the season finale!
  6. Finally finished my process cross training at work. I am offloading a bulk of my current book of work to make way for incoming processes. The training was tedious but I am glad we got it over with.
  7. Post-fight niceness from Cris. We didn’t really fight FIGHT but we got into a little bit of misunderstanding a few days ago. He’s always extra nice and attentive after these episodes so I cherish these “spoiled” moments LOL.
  8. Facebook’s “On This Day” thingamajig. I guess this has been existent for a long while now but I only got to notice it this week. It gives you snapshots of your Facebook posts on the same day, several years ago. It’s just fun to reminisce such memories.
  9. My housemate’s brother is in the city and he brought over some pre-cooked Bicolano food: sinantol and laing. They are now sitting in my fridge, waiting for me to devour them. I plan to do so tomorrow, and pair it with fried fish. Omnomnom!
  10. Today’s lunch at SOM’s. I always look forward to Friday lunch-outs with my team. Today we had copious amounts of Thai food and I washed it all down with SOM’s Thai Tea which I terribly missed.

How was your week?

This is my way of reminding myself of the little things that recently made me happy as inspired by Helga.

Here are the things that made me happy this week:

  1. Canceled choir rehearsals. As much as I love singing with my choir, my work schedule this week makes it impossible to accommodate rehearsal time. Cancelling them means I will not miss much and I have less stuff to catch up on.
  2. DIMSUM! Specifically Lugang’s Pork Xiao Long Bao. I availed of Lugang’s Feast All You Can promo and feast I did! I am literally drooling as I type this because everything was so good I ate til I couldn’t IYKWIM.
  3. Finally finished editing and uploading my video montage during our weekend camping trip to Pagbilao, Quezon. I have been working on it for two weeks and midway, Adobe Premiere Pro decided to act up. I had to start from scratch but I am glad I got it all done and over with.
  4. The almost daily rain episodes. The heat is just so unbearable these days and I am so happy that it has been raining almost every day this week. God knows we ll need the momentary reprieve.
  5. iZombie! A good number of bloggers I religiously read have been mentioning how hooked they are to iZombie. I finally gave it a go and boy, am I entertained! So far, I am loving it.
  6. I finally jumped the gun and had a haircut. My hair just feels so healthy and light. And with the new (shorter) length, I was able to style it everyday this week.
  7. SPAM musubi! I have sheets after sheets of nori about to go bad – an S&R impulse buy. I was frying up some SPAM and realized I could probably turn it into a musubi. I only had brown rice but it still turned out so good.
  8. Earlier this week, I woke up with a painful knot on my back maybe due to my weird sleeping position. It hurt so bad and it makes me so uncomfortable but Cris had been giving me back massage for two consecutive nights now. WIN!
  9. Trivia Crack. It’s my newly-installed game I have been playing all day. It’s just so fun to answer random trivia and participate in friendly competition with friends.
  10. I am still surprisingly full from my bibimbap lunch at Seoul Express. Nothing exceptional about the food but for some reason, I was so content with it.

What are the things that made you happy this week?

Things I can’t really say upfront to certain people…

  • A friendly yet unsolicited advice, GET OFF YOUR FUCKING HIGH HORSE! Honestly, you are not as good as you think you are. Not even close. You are weird and quirky but in a non-adorable way. Give yourself a favor and lose the attitude. And for Christ’s sake, get yourself a decent haircut!

  • I am so happy that you are trying to get out of your comfort zone and is now more open to experience new things. I know sometimes it appears like I am egging you on to become more spontaneous and act more (for lack of a better term) stupid, I just want you to savor your newfound liberty. I know and I have faith that you are still able to restrain yourself despite being more carefree. Continue living life to the fullest! 🙂

  • Thank you for trusting me, for opening up to me. We have never talked about our relationships THAT way before, mainly because I always wanted you to talk about it when you are entirely ready. That night only proved that you trust me enough to tell me all about it, and I appreciate the trust. You have so much patience and love in your heart, and I only pray that you remain strong despite all the trials. And when the load gets too hard to bear, you know I’m just one text message away.

  • Shape up, man! You have got to stop being a dead weight and start cleaning up after your own shit. We can only do so much for you. HELP YOURSELF! Don’t you put into heart all the motivational nad inspirational quotes that you share? I know that this is not entirely where you want to be, but as long as you’re here and not able to leave, you need to earn your keep. And don’t act all hostile towards the people who try to help you either. Appearing to be apologetic and humble will come a long way when you’re in deep shit. But honestly, if nothing else works for you here now, feel free to leave. Pursue your passion. I know you will be a lot happier when you go after what you really want.

What are things you wish you could say to people around you but just can’t?

I made exactly the same thing previously, if you’re keen you can read it here: Unsent Letters
