I first learned of All4U when I saw one of their sponsored posts on Facebook. I swear, FB ads will be the death of me! I often catch myself getting suckered into the seemingly endless video ads of restaurants, cosmetics, and almost anything under the sun. Such a waste of time, haha! Anyway, I digress. After stalking their FB page for reviews, I trecked all the way to Century Mall to try out All4U’s buffet grill and shabu shabu. 

During our visit, they had a soft opening promo of Php599 instead of Php699 per head. With this you can order unlimited amounts of shrimp, beef, pork (for samgyupsal), vegetables, soup base, rice, sauce and side dish. It also comes with a serving of Korean ramen (the instant kind), Melona ice cream, and a drink of your choice.

They serve you four sauces – All4U spicy special sauce, soy-based ponzu sauce, sate sauce, and sesame oil with salt and pepper. Honestly, I touched only the sesame oil and maybe a little bit of their spicy sauce.

They also have four side dishes – dilis with peanuts, papaya achara with vinegar, kimchi and fresh vegetable salad with All4U sauce which tasted like Kewpie’s roasted sesame salad dressing. I liked everything except for the achara which was very forgettable.

Here comes the good part! You can order plate after plate of shrimp (so good when freshly grilled!), chicken (waste of stomach space), beef (perfect for the shabu shabu), and pork belly (the ultimate love of my life haha). The veggies provided the illusion that we were eating a well balanced meal haha! No but seriously, the veggies were also good. I love soaking them long in the bubbling broth until they almost disintegrate – am I the only one who does this?

The deal also comes with a choice of either steam rice or kimchi rice but we barely touched our rice, to be honest. For our soup base, we ditched the kimchi soup and opted for the All4U Organic Soup. Apparently, it is a stock made out of kelp, graviola, shitake, malunggay, garlic, and ginger. It comes out pretty bland so you can ask for salt, pepper, and soy sauce to taste. I didn’t use any salt but put in minced garlic and chili peppers, instead – it turned out good!

As if all that awesome food wasn’t good enough, they gave us a privilege card which entitles us to avail of their soft opening price of Php599 instead of Php699 FOREVER. Now that’s a sure-fire way of securing returning customers. I am already planning out my next visit!

I have been extremely busy these past few weeks hence the unintentional hiatus. Work was crazy due to movements in the team and the little downtime I had, I chose to spend on catching up on sleep. I wasn’t THAT physically tired but it sure felt like my brain was FRIED. But anyway, I am trying to slowly get back on track with the blog. I am currently stuck at home with a slight fever and an upset stomach so this post serves as a good distraction. So here is the week’s list.

  1. Cris and I very rarely go to malls (I tend to avoid malls because PEOPLE, ’nuff said) so I was quite adamant when he said he wanted to have our date-night at SM Megamall. I gave in and we had a lovely dinner at a curry house. Then he dragged me to the appliance store and bought me an oven! I have always wanted one but keep putting off buying one for no apparent reason and now he finally did it for me. Brownie points for the man! 🙂
  2. I love eating out and trying out new restaurants. This weekend, Cris and I got to try out the food at Eri Curry and decided to film our meal.I started a ~web series~ on my YouTube channel and named it Dead Hungry, which directly and aptly translates to Patay Gutom LOL. If you’re keen on watching us stuff our faces with delicious curry, I’d appreciate it if you watch the video below.

  1. Some friends decided to come over to our condo unit and cooked up a feast for us.We had buttered garlic shrimp, halaan soup, buttered veggies and fried whole fish. YUM!
  2. To commemorate June as PRIDE Month, we staged a mini-concert at work featuring employee talents and a ~celebrity guest~. We invited over Rita from The Voice Philippines and she was great. My group also performed two songs that show support to the LGBT community. 
  3. Free food! My team won around Php10K from another event and we decided to celebrate by ordering lunch for everyone. Free food is always good LOL.
  4. It’s time for our Midyear Performance Evaluation and I am so glad to hear good feedback from both my supervisor and manager. I have been working my butt off extra hard this year and it just feels good to be validated.
  5. Finding girlfriends who share your opinions and beliefs.Whether it be towards social media, money, relationships, work or whatever.
  6. A friend from work recently went to Boracay and I am so happy he obliged to buy mea box of Calamansi Muffins from Real Coffee. I have been having it for breakfast with a cup of coffee and  it just starts my day off at the right note.
  7. My company provides car service to employees who leave work after 10pm. I always work way past the time and it’s just so nice to not worry about getting home safe and sound. Not to mention the savings I incur. I swear, cab money has been burning a hole in my pocket.
  8. I finally watched the finale of iZombie 1! I love it and I can’t wait for the next season to start.

 

I very rarely meet up with friends during the work week mainly because I finish work later than the usual 9-6 office job. Most of my friends work outside the BGC area and it is a hell to get out of BGC from 6pm onwards so unless the dinner takes place within The Fort, I usually just don’t bother anymore. So when my good friend, T, texted me and said she was available for dinner, I just had to make time. Plus she was willing to trek all the way from QC to The Fort even if it was her first time to commute that route. (Super appreciate the effort, love!)

It was one of those nights where we were not craving for anything specific, we just knew we were hungry. Very hungry. Tokyo Bubble Tea sounded like a good idea because of the relatively wide variety in their menu items.

On to the food!

Bulgogi Nachos | Php245
Bulgogi-style nachos topped with spicy Korean mayonnaise, onions, tomatoes and carrot strips. We attacked this as soon as it reached our table. We were really hungry, don’t judge us! LOL. The Bulgogi Nachos were OK. The nacho chips were warm and crispy and the toppings was quite generous. It was OK but nothing worth writing home about.

Ole Spicy Tuna | Php175
Tuna wrapped in crispy rice with pickled jalapeño savoring that hot and spicy goodness. This was my least favorite dish of the night. Don’t take me wrong, I do like my jalapeño. Without the tuna-mayo topping, the roll lacked flavor especially after that spicy Bulgogi Nacho.

Nippon Ebi | Php285
Panko breaded prawn rolled in sushi rice topped with mango on melted mozzarella cheese. This was the better roll of the night. And since I love cheese so much, the melted mozzarella was my favorite part.

Spicy Seafood Pasta | Php235
Penne pasta with squid, shrimp, clam, and mussel on a creamy pomodoro sauce. And now we come to my favorite dish of the night. What you see below is half of one serving because we asked the kitchen staff to split the dish into two. Aside from the big serving size, I also loved the perfect combination of creamy-tangy-spicy sauce. I squeezed in a bit of lemon juice for that extra zing and it was perfect. I would definitely order this again!

I felt like we made the wrong call on the rolls but the night was saved by the pasta alone. I think this is now my favorite dish from Tokyo Bubble Tea. How about you, have you tried the food from Tokyo Bubble Tea? What is your favorite dish?

One thing I noticed is there really isn’t that much Singaporean restaurants here in the Philippines. Not that I am a fan of Singaporean food or anything, aside from the infamous chicken rice which I don’t think is of pure Singaporean origin. But I’m really just rambling now because there’s no specific reason why my friends and I chose to eat here. We were honestly just looking for something new and we saw that Sentosa was not crowded, and if you know me and my friends, we kinda hate crowded places. Again, I’m rambling…

For our appetizer, we went for the Roti Canai (Php130). It was good but the serving is really stingy. I mean just a measly piece of flatbread for more than a hundred bucks? I say it’s a ripoff. Such a shame too because it was really delicious.

For our soup, we had the Tom Yum Goong (Php295). It was nicely flavored but there were only three small shrimps in it. What’s up with that? LOL. Good thing there was only three of us, but what if there was another person there? Would they have added another shrimp in there? Or would one of us miss out o a shrimp altogether? Haha the things I think about.

We also ordered the Grilled Stuffed Squid (Phph350). It was overcooked and the stuffing was not really good. I’ve had better grilled squid from a carinderia. At a much cheaper price, too!

And the biggest rip off of the meal. I couldn’t even find the name of this in their published menu but I think it was around Php200, maybe they pulled it out already (hopefully) LOL. It was some sort of green beans sauteed with ground pork and red bell pepper. Eh?!? Basta it was not good! The string beans were waaaay undercooked and the combination with the bell pepper made it all taste weird.

My first time at Sentosa was a fail. But maybe I would go back if just for the Roti. And then maybe I’ll throw in an order of Singaporean Chicken. Worth a second chance, I guess.

Almost a year ago, I traveled to Thailand for the first time with my good friends, Allan and Lorraine. I had a total of six days to spend in this beautiful country so I decided to split my time between Phuket and Bangkok. Plans of meeting up and partying at Pattaya with Vlad and his sister were also in order but did not push through due to time constraints.

Upon landing at Suvarnabhumi Airport, we took a cab that would take us to Don Muang Airport (DMK). From DMK, we will be flying to Phuket where our itinerary officially starts. We were making good time so we had the chance to admire the decor inside the airport. Not used to such grand displays inside an airport, we were quite amused with all the golden things scattered all over the departure area.

After about 90 minutes, we arrived at Phuket International Airport. Another cab ride took us to our hotel. We were way early for check-in so we killed some time having breakfast in their in-house restaurant. I will be making a separate entry on our hotel because it deserves one, hehe. When we finally got to check in; we took a little rest, freshened up and were ready to go out by lunchtime. We asked a tuktuk driver to take us to a restaurant, one that’s close to the beach if possible. True enough, we ended up at a restaurant with a view of the Patong Beach.

For lunch, we had (1) Fried Rice in Pineapple, (2) Spicy Fried Shrimp, (3) Fried Fish with Mushrooms and (4) Pad Thai. It was the most expensive and most rightly so the most delicious Pad Thai of our entire trip. When our food was served, I realized that “fried” in other Asian countries is more of sautéed with some sort of sauce. LOL. Wala lang…

After eating, we decided to stroll around Patong Beach. It’s massive shoreline (the whole stretch is 3.5KM long!!!) was filled with so many tourists and equally numerous locals aggressively urging everyone that passes by them to try whatever they offer. Patong Beach is the main tourist resort in Phuket and understandably so. You can never run out of things to do here – from varying water activities to just lounging around. At night, the bars that line its shores come alive and get filled with so many tourists.

When we got tired of walking along the shore (and all the men coaxing us to try everything), we moved to the street lined with stalls and carts peddling anything and everything under the sun. From shirts, to magnets, to massages, to food – it’s all there! We zoomed in on the crepes because NUTELLA. Haha! We ate our crepes as we walk back to our hotel. We never took a tuktuk to and from Patong Beach again because the distance was manageable after all.

When we got back to our hotel, we immediately changed to our swimming suits and lounged in the pool for a good two hours. We also took advantage of this downtime (and stronger wi-fi) to update our families and social networks. It was getting cold as soon as the sun went down so we decided to get ready for dinner. A few minutes walk from the hotel led us to a group of peddlers offering a lot of street food. We had noodle soup with two different kinds of toppings (beef and chicken), chicken pad thai, and fruit shakes to down them all. Super yummy and cheap street food!

Our first day in Phuket was not too eventful but I couldn’t think of a better way to start our vacation. Come back for the rest of our Thailand stay! 🙂

 

 

Mr. Choi Kitchen is one of my favorite lunch out/ dinner spots when I was still working with Globe Telecom. One of their branches is located in Robinson’s Forum, a short walking distance from both my previous office and condo. Due to its accessibility, it is my default go-to restaurant every time I have them Chinese munchies. Below are all the food we ordered when I last ate there with three other friends.

Spinach Seafood Soup (Php90) | For starters, we had their spinach soup. Perfectly warm and light, best way to start out our meal. It had bits of shrimp, fish and tofu so it’s very tasty as well.

Beef Brisket and Wanton Noodle Soup (Php195) | Because I wanted more soup (I always want more soup!), I requested that we get an order of noodle soup. I liked the beef because it was tender and had the perfect amount of fat that I like (which is not too much). The wanton was OK as well but the noodles tasted a bit plastic-y for me. It was fine anyway because I was just after the soup originally.

Baked Roast Duck in White Sauce with Rice (Php250) | I always opt for Chao Fan when I dine here but my companions already ordered before I got there so I had to settle with their choice. It turned out very delicious! It had a generous amount of the roast duck and white sauce. I especially loved the burnt parts of the sauce because it added a smoky taste to the rice. This is actually good as a dish in itself because as I said, the amount of roast duck in it is very generous.

Crispy Fried Chicken (Php290) | Half of a whole chicken crispy fried to perfection with crackers – another regular in any Chinese meal. I always eat it with a dipping sauce of calamansi juice, chili garlic paste and soy sauce. Yum!

Beef with Broccoli (Php290) | Another regular is the beef with broccoli. The slices of beef were again perfectly tender. I just wish there’s much more broccoli thrown in there.

Mr. Choi Dimsum Combination (Php305) |  It is blasphemous to dine in a Chinese restaurant and not order any type of dimsum. We take it up a notch higher by ordering a platter of varied dimsums to satisfy the equally varied cravings. I always zoom in first on the hakaw (shrimp dumpling) and go to the nori wrapped siu mai next. The rest are good as well, but these two are on the top of my list.
